Special Interests WE DO
Upper Limb Therapy and rehabilitation
Hand physiotherapy is a non-surgical rehabilitation process performed by a physiotherapist to manage hand disorders and injuries. Hand physiotherapy involves the use of exercise, scar management and immobilisation as needed.
During our evaluation we will be able to decide if a referral to a specialist might be needed. We have a good relationship with the specialists in Mossel Bay and the surrounding areas. We also do the post-operative rehabilitation.
ERGONOMICS
Evaluating your work environment and work related problems and postures to help you acquire better positions, pacing schedules and understanding of what will benefit your work environment and body to be more effortlessly productive.
TMJ/Jaw/ Front head and neck disorders
TMJ refers to the joints connecting your jaw to your skull. Temporomandibular joint dysfunction is caused by strain on the jaw joints and surrounding muscles which allow you to speak, swallow and chew. This is a painful condition which is often linked to headaches/tightness/clicking of the jaw/toothache/hearing loss/neck and jaw pain.Symptoms of this condition can be successfully eliminated with a team approach involving physiotherapy. We can evaluate your headache / sinus problems / toothache / earache and see whether the TMJ is involved. We will also be able to teach you ways to manage and relieve your pain.
Palliative care
A type of specialized care given by trained medical professionals for life-threatening ill patients who require ongoing care. The setting can vary from your home, a frail care home, hospice or in rare cases a hospital setting. Patients are seen and treated by a variety of health professionals to treat and care for their illnesses, and it can range from staying for a week to years. This does not mean that it is only for people who are dying, but for anyone requiring ongoing longative care. Treatment can start as soon as when you first learn about your life-threatening condition. In palliative care the medical team strives to provide COMFORT most of all and relieving of symptoms. A step-by-step plan is crafted to ensure this for you as the patient and your family. The aim of palliative care is to improve your quality of life.
Women’s Health
We evaluate and treat a variety of Women’s Health conditions, including urinary incontinence, chronic bladder infections, constipation, pain with intercourse, pelvic pain, and many more regarding the pelvic area. There are a lot of emotions and experiences which we host in our pelvis and we can help you to release these causes of pain.
STRETCH CLASSES
We offer gentle stretch classes and back and neck classes for strengthening and stretching. These are done in a small group set up so each person can get individual attention. Perfect for all ages, to get you moving.
Lymphatic drainage
Lymphatic drainage refers to manual massage techniques done by a qualified therapist which improves circulation throughout the lymphatic system. Lymphatic drainage improves the drainage of lymph nodes around the body which reduces pain, swelling and stiffness. These techniques can greatly benefit people with lymphedema, fibromyalgia and other conditions which causes lymph fluid to build up as it improves overall mobility, function and quality of life.
Your Recovery Process
Pain Relief
Reducing pain, swelling, and inflammation are common goals in this phase of recovery. Injury protection, elevation, appropriate medications, compression, and patient education are important.
Introduce Movement
Pain-free passive, manual therapy, active range of motion, and cardiorespiratory exercises, are indicated here. Education about pain and a positive attitude may help.
Strengthening
Progressive loading of healing soft tissues, the reintroduction of low-stress neuromuscular reeducation, balance training, and basic functional activities are part of this rehabilitation phase.
Functional Retraining
Progressing strengthening exercises, improving flexibility, and advanced balance exercises are part of phase 4. Resuming functional movement (e.g. sports movements) occurs in this phase.
Recovery & Prevention
Functional movements are progressed, a controlled re-introduction to sports or challenging environments is initiated. Continued strengthening, flexibility, balance, endurance, and goal-specific training occurs during this phase. Education and future injury prevention are discussed.
